Santa Clara County Office of Education launches #IVoted Video Competition

SAN JOSE, CA – The Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) is pleased to announce the launch of the 2019 #IVoted Video Competition. The youth film competition supports efforts by the SCCOE to encourage civic engagement amongst students.

In light of the approaching 2020 presidential election, the #IVoted Video Competition calls on junior and high school aged creatives within Region 5 (Santa Clara, San Benito, Monterey, and Santa Cruz counties) to motivate their peers to vote. The winning videos will become part of the SCCOE's educator toolkit for High School Voter Education Weeks and shared online to help inspire future voters and motivate eligible voters.

The competition was born from the need to address voter apathy, particularly amongst youth. On average, only 60-percent of eligible Americans vote during a presidential election and 40-percent vote during a mid-term election. Research also suggests that young people are generally less likely to vote and believe their vote doesn't matter.

First-place winning individuals or teams will win either studio time in the SCCOE TV studio or a visit from the SCCOE mobile media van to the winners' school site. The deadline to submit video content is 5 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2019.
